If Romo is a Pro Bowl quarterback after eight starts with the Dallas Cowboys, then Rex Grossman is after 14 for the Bears. At the very least, Grossman earned the chance to be one of the two alternates and he wasn’t.
Without getting into stats or number of games played for a moment, let’s consider the following: Romo saved Dallas’ season while Grossman is arguably the weakest link on the Bears. In other words: it is wholly conceivable that the Bears could be exactly where they are without Grossman (remember Kyle Orton last year?), but it is impossible to think that Dallas could be knocking on the #2 slot in the NFC sans Romo.
Further, Romo has had really only one bad game (New Orleans) and it was nowhere close to Grossman’s bad games (note the plural). Indeed, in Romo’s two losses (Washington and NO), it was a special teams breakdown and poor defensive play respectively that cost those games.
If the Bears D and special teams weren’t as good as they are, Grossman would’ve lost several games by himself this season (can you say “6 turnovers against the hapless Arizona Cardinals”? I bet you can. How about QB rating of under 2 in a game? I bet you can say that, too).
Even if one wants to argue that Romo shouldn’t be in the Pro Bowl, one would have to be smokin’ something to argue that Grossman should be the replacement.
There is no doubt that Romo got into the PB at least in part because of poor play at the QB position across the NFC this year. However, it is also true that he has been quite impressive thus far, especially for an undrafted free agent from a IAA school. It is also true that Grossman has had as much potential this year to be a trainwreck as anything else.

Interestingly enough, the reader poll has about half of the vote saying he doesn’t deserve a pro-bowl appearance, and about a quarter saying that he should maybe go as a backup. Nice vote of confidence from the local fans there.
