Rick Gosselin on the ‘Boys Future
By Steven L. Taylor

The DMN’s Rick Gosselin was on the Herd on ESPNRadio this morning and stated the following regarding the Cowboys:

  • He doesn’t think that Parcells will be back, because he believes that Parcells’ assessment will be that he can’t win the SuperBowl with the current team (he believes that Parcells came back this year because he thought he could go all the way). He also things that because Romo has become, in Gosselin’s words “a turnover machine” (an unfair assessment, I would argue) that this simply reinforces the notion that Parcells will decide that they can’t win next year.
  • He believes that while Jerry Jones will not push Parcells out, that Jerry would just as soon see him go so that he (Jones) can return to being the GM. Gosselin believes that Jones will be hire a high profile coach next time and that Jones believes he has learned a lot watching Parcells run the team and is therefore ready to resume the GM duties (to which I say: God help us, then).

None of this is not encouraging. Not only do I wonder who in the world Dallas could get if Parcells leaves, I very much fear the notion of Jerry returning to a more active role in personnel decisions. Remember: he wanted to keep Bledsoe at QB after the first Giants game and I firmly believe that had that happened, we would not have made the playoffs.

Hopefully Gosselin is wrong about a lot of this. However, I will note that he has often been one of the most astute writers on the NFL and the Cowboys that I have read over the years, so I have to take all this quite seriously. I am especially concerned about his negative characterization of Romo.

  1. […] I have a report and assessment here. It would appear that he thinks that Parcells is gone, that Jerry is looking to return to the GM role and that Romo is a “turnover machine.” […]
