Mac Engel of the Star-Telegram asks: Who’s next? Stoops, Turner on list of potentials.
Here’s a look at the early candidates to replace Parcells:# Ron Rivera, Chicago Bears defensive coordinator;
# Norv Turner, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator ;
# Wade Phillips, San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator;
# Pete Carroll, Southern California head coach;
# Charlie Weiss, Notre Dame head coach;
# Bob Stoops, Oklahoma head coach;
# Houston Nutt, Arkansas head coach.
The problem is, this list is almost entirely speculation.
Rivera? A real possibility if Jerry goes the coordinator route.
Norv? Norv hasn’t had much success as an HC, but he does have Dallas roots and has proven himself to be a fine offensive coach.
Phillips? He has been an impressive DefCoord, but as an HC he hasn’t been too swift. However, his name has emerged as someone on Jerry’s mind.
Weiss? As noted earlier today (see post below), there is a huge buyout that Jerry would have to pay.
Carroll? Forget it–he has an awesome gig in SoCal.
Stoops? Maybe.
Nutt? Jerry does have Arkansas ties, but I have to wonder if Nutt is NFL material or not.
