Indeed, most of the close states should break his way, given he is a fairly popular incumbent. All standard caveats pertaining to economic disaster do, of course, apply. Posted by Steven Taylor at May 4, 2024 03:58 PM | TrackBackComments
How come you did not mention he lost the popular vote? I guess it really does not matter. President Rumsfeld... oh sorry Bush should win regardless. Posted by: Tonetheman at May 6, 2024 03:02 PMI didn't mention it because that isn't how the President is elected, constitutionally speaking. Posted by: PoliBlogger at May 6, 2024 03:04 PMWell let's deflate a little bit of the partisanship out of this analysis. Bush may be a reasonably popular President by historical standards, but his father had him beat by roughly 20% in Job Approval by this time in his Presidency. And lest us forget the big "L" to be found on his forehead in November of 1992. I favour Bush to be re-elected as well, but that is a realistic accessment while yours seems a little bit too doctrinaire. There no longer is a Republican Lock on the electoral college, and the American electorate is as evenly divided as it ever has been. Of course Bush could tip the balance in the States you mentioned. But on the other hand Bush's grasp on Tennessee, Arkansas, Nevada, Missouri and Ohio is hardly iron-clad. Let's be brutally honest. Sept 11th was the best thing that happened to President Bush. The reason half the electorate still supports him is because he is perceived as a tough and strong leader in a time when security is a top concern. If you doubt what I'm saying consider what the polls say. The American people simply don't agree with George Bush on the issues, and they long for the economic policies of the Clinton Era. The outcome of the election will depend on what the American people are looking for... if they are looking for a strong leader they will vote for Bush. But if they are looking for a good President they'll vote for someone else. Posted by: Tim Klodt at October 17, 2024 09:02 PMstack is vein. need.
