Interesting: Schwarzenegger Ready to Debate, Plans TV Ads

Arnold Schwarzenegger, famous on film for beating up, blowing up and gunning down opponents, said on Monday he was ready to engage in another form of combat -- a political debate.

"I intend to debate (Gov.) Gray Davis and the other major candidates on the ballot," the Austrian-born Republican actor said in a statement.

I think his lack of visibility in the last week has hurt him and this likely will help. Granted, he could open his mouth and stick his foot in it, but silence is its own kind of problem, as people hear what they want to hear in one's lack of words.

He could debate Arianna and nobody would know what either of them are talking about.

As most have alluded to, McClintock and Simon are both dead (especially with each other in the race). The real darkhorse, IMHO, is Peter Ueberroth.

He's probably the most qualified of any of the candidates. If I was from California, this is certainly who I would vote for, although he's not as conservative as I tend to be.

Nonetheless, he's not a career politician (Bustamante) or an actor/activist (Arnold), and he's the only one in the race promising not to run for re-election (unlike Simon and McClintock).

BTW: One of McCain's operatives is running Ueberroth's upcoming McCain-style town hall appearances, and if he can touch 10% over the next two weeks he could become the story of the race.
