This will help with the Simon/McClintock voters: Schwarzenegger Says Won't Raise Taxes in Calif.

Emerging from a meeting in Los Angeles with 19 business and academic leaders, Schwarzenegger laid down his economic program for the first time since declaring his candidacy in the Oct. 7 recall, sounding notes of fiscal conservatism.

"I'm very much a believer that the people of this state have not been under-taxed," Schwarzenegger said, flanked by former Secretary of State George Shultz and billionaire Warren Buffett. "I am in principle against taxes because I feel the people of California have been taxed enough."

The next set of polls should be interesting.

    And, amusing:

"I told Warren that if he mentioned Proposition 13 one more time, he has to do 500 sit-ups," the actor said, tossing Buffett a friendly but menacing stare.

And the plan is? Again, great show. No depth. I'm sure it will play well in the polls but certainly not because he told us anything of value. Strange how we can't really vote in a rational fashion, rather we have to rely on our "faith" in what a candidate will do. But such is our political life, I guess.

The next set of polls certainly will be interesting, we could definitely see a reverse of what I had anticipated... That is, at this point a siphoning of Simon and McClintock voters to Arnold is a distinct possibility.

Still, the Buffett-Schultz pairing sends mixed signals. And I agree that Prop 13 needs to be rationalized (as per your earlier post) -- speaking as someone contemplating on buying property on the Central Coast (and who has put it off until all this s*** gets cleared up).

I would cast an absentee for Ariana b/c she has the funniest accent and is really, really, really stupid.

    John,

To some degree there is no other way to do it, because unless you want to start electing absolute dictators, we can never fully know what a chief executive will be able to do. Even the most detailed plan can be thwarted by the legislature--and at a minimum, it will be changed.

Having said that, I would agree that it would be nice if there was more open discourse on the specifics.

Hey, I'm all for electing dictators ... so long as they are me. I already have my campaign slogan.

    Because Stalin is already dead.
