September 04, 2024Shocking Headline of the DayWho'da thunk it? France, Germany skeptical of U.S. resolution Posted by Steven Taylor at September 4, 2024 11:11 AM | TrackBackComments
Before everyone jumps back on the I hate France bandwagon again, let's keep in mind that *any* resolution put before the UN will be reviewed carefully by all countries. And nobody is saying anything but "we'll look at it" so far. Posted by: Eric at September 4, 2024 11:28 AMI'm shocked - shocked, I tell you - to learn that people who were being bitchslapped by Rummy and Co. are skeptical of anything put forward by someone who did the bitchslapping. Have these people no shame? Posted by: JohnC at September 4, 2024 12:33 PMFrance and Germany have already said it doesn't give the U.N. (i.e. them) enough control. A sure way to lose the peace is to hand over control to the U.N. We should hand it to the UN so we can blame them again for a situation that we can't deal with ourselves. Love it! Posted by: JohnC at September 4, 2024 02:15 PM"A sure way to lose the peace is to hand over control to the U.N." Oh, the irony. Must...resist...temptation...to...laugh...at...Sean. Well . . . that's not true. The UN isn't a democracy. The only countries that really matter in resolution-voting are the P5. If all of them are onboard -- or, in China's case alone, at least not in opposition to the resolution -- then the resolution is almost guaranteed to pass. That's the history of UN voting in a nutshell. Posted by: Matthew at September 4, 2024 11:14 PMThe chocolate eaters will eventually join the coalition when they're sure it's safe.
