Imagine that: Powell Rejects French Timetable for Iraq

Secretary of State Colin Powell on Friday rejected as "totally unrealistic" a French timetable for the full transfer of authority in Iraq to local control, starting with the establishment of a provisional government next month.

Brilliant political analysis, Steven! Once again, you have captured the essence of the situation.

Who cares that almost every informed observer of this sorry debacle has deemed it critical the administration of the country be returned to Iraqis immediately? You have cut through that fog and perceptively noted we should discard any proposal--regardless of merit--if it is from the French.

The French don't seem to be leaving any of the countries they have invaded lately. It's so transparent that they only want to sabotage the liberation they opposed.

The problem with D-Rod's comment is that France hasn't invaded anyone 'lately.'

We can only assume he is talking about Cote d'Ivoire whose Govt. asked France to intervene after rebels threatened an insurgency.

Much different than what happened in Iraq where we fabricated a reason to invade a country.

But, hey, why spoil a good rant?

The problem is France has executed regime changes dozens of times in the last half century, frequently without "invitation", "fabricated reasons", or even considering asking the U.N. France is a bully. Throw Dominque de Villepin down the rat hole of French nonsense too for lending Arafat plenty of extra legitimacy to blow up the road map.
