Texas Governor Signs Redistricting Map Into Law

Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Monday signed into law a congressional redistricting map designed to boost Republican power in Washington.

Perry's signature ends six months of often dramatic legislative battles that prompted Democrats to leave the state twice and caused Republican infighting over how to draw the map.

The only viable attack, lawsuit-wise, is going to be on racial lines, since the Supremes have said that partisan gerrymandering alone isn't enough to overturn lines. I am unsure, based on what I have read, if there is a strong race-based claim with these districts. My impression has been not, but it isn't an especially strong impression. We shall see.

Yep. And we're presuming the districts are contiguous, along some reasonable lines, etc.

The quote "designed to boost Republican power" reveals the bias...

The state has shifted to be overwhelmingly (R) and the (D)'s gerrymandering is being undone to allow those disenfranchised, and under-represented (R) voters to be REPRESENTED in the US house of Representatives.

That's why the 17-15 (D) majority will shift to the 11-21 (R) majority that reflects the composition of the Texas electorate.

If the (D)'s gave a crap about democracy they wouldn't have fought so hard to impose on Texas... but of course they'll sue... they are the party of elites and that includes Lawyers... so they'll sue now, like they sued twice and lost in California to prevent the recall and like they sued 14 times and lost every time in FloriDUH.

    Dummocrits... because they are.
