  • Those Darn WMDs

Speaking of the “Bush Lied” Meme, here are some more quotes that no doubt will be used against the president in the upcoming campaign:

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."

"Originally, the Iraqis indicated they had just a small quantity of VX (nerve agent) ... Now the U.N. believes that Saddam may have produced as much as 200 tons ... enough to kill everyone on Earth."

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein ... The threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real."

    Or, maybe not.

For while I suspect that many of these quotes could show up in campaign ads this season, they won’t be Kerry ads, but rather Bush ones, since, the quotes above aren’t from Bush, they are from President Clinton (in 98), Clinton SecDef Bill Cohen (in 99), VP Gore (in 02), and Senator John F. Kerry (in 03).

You guys surely arent the simpletons that arguments like this make you seem to be. Yes, a lot of Dems. felt Iraq has had WMDs over the years. However, at a time when inspectors were in Iraq, when we controlled Iraqi airspace, and when even our own intelligence felt that Iraq was not a present danger to the US, only one guy goaded us into war. W begged us to war by giving us only half of the intelligence story, and now that he's been proven disingenuous, he's claiming that the war was to "remove Saddam from power." If this guy was not a Republican, with his lies ("I've never been arrested"), his refusal to be forthright ("I will not answer any questions about cocaine") and his voluminous spending (that S.O.T.U. speech sounded like a Clintonian wish list of billion dollar projects), ya'll would crucify him. Just goes to show how partisan hypocrisy can make you idolize anyone.
