One Can Only Hope…
By Steven L. Taylor

Via io9: 5 Lessons We Hope RTD’s Learned From His Past Doctor Who Epics.

Davies deserves plaudits aplenty for his revival of the series (and the Whoniverse in general), but as a writer for the series, he has been mediocre as best (and his end-of-series finales have all been flawed in various ways).

Tennant Gets US Pilot
By Steven L. Taylor

Via Reuters: “Doctor Who” star lands NBC legal pilot

Popular British actor David Tennant, best known for playing the title role in the BBC’s long-running sci-fi series “Doctor Who,” is set to make his American television debut as the title character in NBC’s hour-long pilot “Rex Is Not Your Lawyer.”

The comedic legal drama centers on a top Chicago litigator (Tennant) who begins suffering panic attacks and takes up coaching clients to represent themselves in court.

Hmm. I will be interested in seeing it, as I loved Tennant as the Doctor, but as far as premises go, this sounds more like a movie plot than the premise for a TV show, but one never knows, I suppose.

Via Clevaland.com:  Sci-fi revival: ‘V’ and ‘The Prisoner’ are successful remakes of old TV shows.

Everyone is likely aware that V starts this week, but the story also has info on the premiere of The Prisoner, which starts on AMC this month as well.

Happy Anniversary, Buckaroo
By Steven L. Taylor

io9 reminds us to say Happy 25th Birthday, Buckaroo Banzai.

Truly a fantastic, if clearly odd (in a good way) film. If you have never seen it, it is worth your while.

I (and many others) find it to be a shame that this never developed into a series of films or TV show, as it had a great deal of potential.

It always struck me as a character who was sort of an American version of the Doctor.

Will we Get to Dance with Dragons this Year?
By Steven L. Taylor

Via: FREE! Magazine - The man who dances with dragons – Interview with fiction writer George R.R. Martin

The one dollar million question that most of the fans are wondering around the world: How is Dance of Dragons going (the awaited fifth book of The Song of Ice & Fire saga)?

It is going pretty well actually, I am hoping to finish it by September or October that is my goal.

May it be so! Of course, the predictions of writers are typically over-optimistic, but we can hope.

More Game of Thrones Casting News
By Steven L. Taylor

Via Reuters: Sean Bean ascends to Game of Thrones

Bean will play Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark, known for his sense of honor and justice, who becomes closest adviser to King Robert (Mark Addy).

Kit Harrington will play Jon Snow, Bean’s bastard son, and Harry Lloyd will play Viserys, a powerless ruler who seeks to marry off his sister to a powerful king. Jack Gleeson will play Joffrey, King Robert’s son.

Bean is best known (to me, anyway) as Boromir from the Lord of the Rings films and strikes me as a good choice for the role.
