After my rather annoying bought with outages of my cable modem service, I made the move to DSL over a week ago and have been quite pleased with the service to date.
Given that I had had the same basic trouble with the cable twice in less than six months, and after it took over a week to get it fixed, something had to give. One shouldn’t have to convince one’s provider that there’s a problem, and surely shouldn’t take calling daily for a week and having to stay on hold for an hour to get the problem fixed.
So, Charter’s loss–and it may yet result in DirectTV to replace my cable tv, too…

I’ve had DirecTV for going on 4 years now, and I can’t say a bad thing about them. If you can get your locals on satellite, or can get them OK with an antenna, ditch the cable and get the dish!
BellSouth DSL is ok, but I occasionally have weird problems (not to mention the time in December they screwed up my billing and knocked me offline for 10 days…)

I got DirecTV so I could have NFL Sunday Ticket. I love everything about it. If it were a girl I would marry it!

TiVo and NFL Sunday Ticket are also two strong moivations for DTV, I must admit.

Lucky bastard. We’re so far out that we can’t get DSL. Only cable. But fortunately we have very stupid cable people. After two weeks of cable modem outages (which pretty much sounded the death knell of Barrel of Fish), I asked for one month free service. The supervisor couldn’t do that, but she could give me three months at half price.
True story.
And it is what drained the water from the Barrel of Fish. (I’ve thought of resurrecting it, but it is too time consuming, I’m traveling too much, and I forgot my password.)

[…] Of course, I had a similar experience some years back. Hence, the fact that I use DSL. Indeed, I shed Charter’s internet service three years ago in just under a week. […]
