Dutch Authorities Seize Record EU220 Million of Cocaine at Port
Dutch authorities seized a record 4,600 kilograms (10,140 pounds) of cocaine with a street value of 220 million euros ($276 million) at Rotterdam Port.The cocaine was found on Aug. 3 in containers destined for Belgium, the Dutch office of public prosecutions said today on its Web site. Authorities apprehended 13 suspects this past weekend. One man, a 45-year-old Colombian, died when he fell from a window while trying to escape, the Web site said.
The suspects, who weren’t identified, are 11 men and two women from countries including the Netherlands, Colombia, Mexico, Greece, Venezuela and the U.S., with ages ranging from 15 years to 50 years, the prosecutor’s office said.
