60 Minutes II on Umm Qasr

Did anyone see the 60 Minutes II piece on Wednesday night on the distribution of aid to Iraqi civilians at Umm Qasr? If anyone saw the US serviceman, who had tears in his eyes because of the joy he saw on the faces of Iraqi children because the US had brought water, and still can call this cause unjust, or worse, claim that we are purposefully killing women and children, are out of touch with reality. Further, the fact that a substantial part of the reason that the people in Umm Qasr didn't have water was because the regime halted shipments even before the war started should quell any talk of the moral equivalency of the two sides.

Indeed, the 60 Minutes II piece that same night on the Fadayeen Saddam should utterly destroy any arguments that the two side are in any way the same.

My boyfriend stationed in Umm Qasr. He has told me about what it has been like to live in a country that runs on completely different train of thought than us. Where we live we take things for granted and over there they barely have what they need let alone what they want. Here in America we do not understand what it is like to go without what we need let alone what we want. In Iraq they are thankful for the littlest things and yet we Americans do not seem to understand that concept.

Part of me is glad that he has had the chance to experenice this but at the same time I wish he could be here at home. I miss him greatly and I hope that he will return soon. He has been serving our country for a year and I am so proud of him along with the rest of his family. I just hope that every other American is as proud of those soldiers as they should be.
I think that we have done the right thing by helping these people. Look at the news now... women in these countries are now standing up for their rights and freedoms that they have been denied all this time. I remember one thing that I learned a long time ago...
That every man, woman and child is created equal.
