10-1
By Steven L. Taylor

For the first time in the franchise history of the Dallas Cowboys, the team is 10-1.

A rather impressive feat, as Jean-Jacques Taylor noted this morning in the pages of the DMN: Try to enjoy this historical Dallas Cowboys season

When the Cowboys beat the Jets – that’s not a misprint – on Thanksgiving Day, they will become the first team in franchise history to post 10 wins in their first 11 games.

Let that marinate for a minute.

Think about all of the championship-caliber teams this franchise has had. Then think about all of the great players – not just those in the Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame – who wore a blue star on the side of their helmet.

None of those guys played on a 10-1 team.

Not Dandy Don. Or Bob Lilly. Or Mel Renfro.

Not Roger, Tony and Drew. Or Cliff and Charlie.

Not Emmitt, Troy and Michael. Or Deion.

Now the next bit: beating the Packers a week from today.

What Are You Thankful for in Sports?
By Steven L. Taylor

Yesterday on the Mike Tirico Show, the question was “what are you thankful for in sports?”

One could wax poetic about one’s general love of sports, but I will pick one specific sports item for which I am thankful: I am thankful that Dallas has a real quarterback again.

What specific sports-related item are you thankful for?

Romo and the Boys on the Road
By Steven L. Taylor

It wasn’t that long ago it seemed that Dallas couldn’t buy a road win. This year, however, they are 5-0 on the road, and their low-scoring game in that stretch was 25 points. Via the Star-Telegram.com:

The Cowboys have played five road games this season and won all five. In those, the Romo-led offense has scored 37, 34, 25, 38 and 31 points.

Score that many, and a team usually can paint over whatever dents it absorbed in the first half.

Sweet.

Aikman Ford to Close
By Steven L. Taylor

Via the <.i>DMN: Aikman Ford to close its doors

Mr. Aikman probably paid $5 million to $6 million for the facility and is likely to lose all of that and more. Through October, the dealership had sold only 869 cars and trucks, down nearly 13 percent from a year ago. That volume puts the dealership in the lower third of area Ford stores. Sam Pack’s Five Star Ford in Carrollton, the top seller through October, sold 1,927 vehicles.

Ouch.

Still, I suspect that Troy will be okay and won’t be selling his SuperBowl rings on eBay.

Romo’s Payday
By Steven L. Taylor

Via the Star-Telegram: Romo wins big again with $67.5 million deal

According to multiple sources, the Cowboys quarterback and his owner have agreed to terms on a six-year contract extension worth $67.5 million. He is guaranteed to receive a whopping $30 million in the first three years of the deal.

It is the second-richest contract in Cowboys history, trailing only the nine-year, $85.5 million contract Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman signed in 1999.

One expected that Jerry would get this done before the season was over, and it is great to have a solid QB with star potential sewn up in Big D. After about a decade of wandering in the desert, Dallas has the guy who can be the “next Aikman” (and there is clearly a long way to go yet).

As Matt Mosley said at Hashmarks:

Romo will make roughly $11.25 million per year, which isn’t bad for an undrafted quarterback out of Eastern Illinois.

Indeed.
