Via the AP: Oops: Jailed mom’s ‘meth’ really cat urine

Cynthia Hunter spent almost two months in jail over a vial of cat urine.

[...]

Deputies added charges of possession of a controlled substance after finding a vial containing a yellow substance in her purse. A drug field test suggested the substance was methamphetamine, The Tampa Tribune reported.

Hunter had protested, saying the substance was dehydrated cat urine for her son’s science project and that it had been purchased at an animal clinic. She was released Thursday after lab tests found the substance was, in fact, cat urine.

Now, granted, she did steal merchandise from a Wal*Mart, so it is hard to feel totally sorry for her, but one would like to think that police would have a field test that could differentiate meth from cat urine.

    1. Well, I can forgive them for not having a regular field test to differentiate cat urine, because I have to suppose that the situation doesn’t come up much. But almost two months? A day or two to run a more specific test would seem more reasonable - especially since she could identify the substance for them.

    3. The headline made me laugh so hard. The fact that on my homepage your headlines are directly under the quotes of the day added to hilarity, however. Your headline was directly under a quote about cats possibly being man’s best friend. Too funny.

As to the news item in question, I wonder if she is now banned from Wal-Mart. . . :)

    4. When I was a kid we didn’t need cat urine for our science projects.

      Times were simpler then.
