Looking back at some past posts on Biden, I noted the following: Joe Biden Never Ceases to Amaze (+Video Evidence of His Foot-in-Mouth Problems) which includes two video clips, including the aforementioned one about Indian-Americans (it originally had three clips, but one is not longer available, and I am not even sure what it contained).

In the original post, I said:

it is clear the Biden simply isn’t built for a lengthy national campaign. Given all that time and all those cameras, Heaven only knows what he might say.

And, I have to admit, I had a point (how’s that for some nice self-referential back-patting?), and I do think that Biden’s biggest negative is that he might very well say something that will cause some embarrassment on any given day to the Obama campaign. Of course, there is an important difference between running for president and running for veep, as despite the fact that the veep candidate is running for president-in-waiting (if not the party’s nominee in four or eight years), we all tend to discount the seriousness (to some degree) of the veep candidate. It is okay from them to be, for example, “the attack dog” or to say less-than-presidential things on the campaign trail (things we wouldn’t want the top of the ticket to say). This fact will help shield Biden to some degree.

Regardless, his presence certainly spices things up more than, say, a Bayh addition (to put it mildly). If anything the chattering classes should be delighted.

    1. I guess Biden has been forgiven over this one (referring to Obama):

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”
