Via the Chicago Tribune: It’s security vs. diplomacy on Israeli ballot
The latest public opinion polls show a narrowing gap between the front-runner, Benjamin Netanyahu, leader of the right-wing Likud party, and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, leader of the centrist Kadima faction. Only a handful of parliamentary seats separate their parties, with about a fifth of the voters still undecided.Defense Minister Ehud Barak, leader of the center-left Labor party, lags behind, overtaken in recent polls by Avigdor Lieberman, head of the ultranationalist Yisrael Beiteinu faction, which has been drawing right-wing voters away from Likud.
