James Joyner notes a report that Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) is actively considering running for the Democratic nomination in 2024.
Let me go ahead and get this one out of the way: he’s toast (burnt toast, at that).

I agree that the idea of Dodd as the Democratic presidential nominee is ridiculous. There is something really ironic about that, however. He is widely perceived as a very left-leaning Democrat, whereas his state’s other Senator, Joe Lieberman, is widely perceived as to the right.
Yet, if you look at their roll-call votes (via the NOMINATE data), you find that they are almost exactly at the same position, very much in the center of their own party caucus.

If the Democrats nominate bench-warmers, who quietly sat out the last few years of Congressional deliberation, when they should have been leading a real national debate about vital questions, they’ll get what they deserve.

Well I don’t really see to many Sen/reps on either side leading to many meaningful national debates about anything, but I do agree that Dodd dosen’t stand a chance. In any case, neither does Mark Warner, but he’s still got my support (as of now at least).
