We’ve had adultery, weird family issues, Kerik, Hugo Chavez, Planned Parenthood and now via the Blotter: OxyContin: The Giuliani Connection

Rudolph Giuliani and his consulting company, Giuliani Partners, have served as key advisors for the last five years to the pharmaceutical company that pled guilty today to charges it misled doctors and patients about the addiction risks of the powerful narcotic painkiller OxyContin.

Federal officials say the company, Purdue Frederick, helped to trigger a nationwide epidemic of addiction to the time-release painkiller by failing to give early warnings that it could be abused.

Prosecutors say “in the process scores died.”

Drug Enforcement Administration officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com Giuliani personally met with the head of the DEA when the DEA’s drug diversion office began a criminal investigation into the company.

Not only does this connect Giuliani to a controversial situation, it makes it appear as if he was personally seeking special treatment from the government which has the potential appearance of impropriety given his own past professional connections to the DoJ. And there’s this:

Giuliani had raised $15,000 in donations for a “traveling museum operated by the DEA.”

Some officials told ABC News there were questions inside the agency of whether the donations were an attempt to influence the DEA.

One has to wonder how all of these factors don’t sum up to damage Rudy’s bid for the nomination once they start to fully penetrate the minds of the electorate.

Rudy: More, much more, To Come

More dirt under the Giuliani Rug – as The Blotter reports on his support for the makers of the strongly addictive oxycontin. Rudy’s and his pal Bernie Kerick’s P.R. firm represented them before the DEA and seems to have slowed

You might want to also mention his latest campaign gaffe: last weekend his campaign asked a disabled small farmer in Olin, Iowa to host an event for him.

Apparently the campaign was going to use the farmer as an example of all the “family farmers” hurt by the “death tax.” The campaign asked them about their assets and once Rudy’s handlers found out that they were not among the small proportion of millionaires who benefit from the cutback of the estate tax, the abruptly cancelled the event.

I guess they weren’t rich enough to be the poster child of who benefits from tax cuts for the wealthy!
