Via the LAT: Irish eyes are roving, to beers other than Guinness

“Years ago, everybody drank Guinness,” said David Donnelly, a 36-year-old Dubliner. “But young people don’t drink Guinness. If I was going for a few drinks with me mates, we just drink Budweiser. Guinness is more of an old fellow’s drink.”

Oh, the humanity.

    1. And yet us Americans will usually drink Guinness over Budweiser (or at least claim to prefer it). Globalization at work indeed!

    2. The number of Americans with sufficient taste to prefer Guinness over Budweiser is pretty small, albeit greater than in the past.

Of course, the story also notes that Guinness remains the no. 1 beer in Ireland, even if its market share has declined. I am certain there is no other country where the number one beer style is not pale lager, other than the UK (where no. 1 is pale bland ale of the misleadingly named “bitter” category).

Globalization or no, got to love a country where stout is no. 1.
