I never watch college football, but for some reason I got pulled into the Northwestern-Auburn game last week and found it pretty exciting.
When did the weird overtime thing come into being? This placing the ball at the 35 yard line seems pretty lame. Why not play overtime the normal way like they do in the NFL?
Is this just concocted for bowl games?

That ended up being quite a game.
The college OT process has been in place for a while (ten yearish?). Before that they just had ties. I am not a fan–while I don’t the notion of both sides getting a shot at the ball, the elimination of the kick and return game is crazy.
