I dunno . . . Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr? It was a stupid duel, Hamilton gave up, and Burr never recovered.
Actually, Nixon might approach this level of stupidity. Recording everything, including his illegal stuff, and then expecting that these recordings would never be used against him.
But now that I think of it . . . no. Nobody has been as dumb as Edwards. Nixon was a brainy guy who let hubris blind him. Edwards shows no signs of having a mind that let him think he could get away with this through scheming.

Granted: there is a competition here.
I was thinking mostly in terms of being a candidate and thinking he could get away with all of this. A high hubris quotient, if anything.
At least the ones you name had the smarts to get elected.

Hamilton and Burr were smart. But they took place in the stupidest MOMENT in American political history. I think we can agree about that.
