Via WaPo: Senate To Start Roberts Hearings
The Judiciary Committee’s 10 Republicans and eight Democrats will focus on Roberts, 50, an appellate court judge and President Bush’s choice to succeed the late William H. Rehnquist, starting at noon with opening statements in the historic Caucus Room of the Russell Senate Office Building.
Mostly I predict a good deal of needless preening and partisan posturing that will in no way change anyone’s minds nor will these proceedings likely inform us all that much (which is a shame). If anybody out there thinks that the members of the committee, and really, the entire Senate, hasn’t already made up their minds, well, give me a ring as I have some ocean front property in Arizona I’d like to sell you.
The question becomes, which Senator will make the most ridiculous linkage to Robert, the Court and Katrina? Odds are good it will be Ted Kennedy.
