The question (via MSNBC/WaPo): Will Saddam affect vote?
The reason: no one was expecting otherwise. Was there any drama to be had here? I think not.
Plus, it isn’t as if he is going to be hung on international television tomorrow (not that I think that would help, either). No, he will remain in prison with an appeal pending and other trials to deal with. Really, the status quo hasn’t changed that much.
Interesting timing though, just before mid terms in the US, so its major news on the news stands only a day prior to voting…Who set the timetable? Not the Iraqis…but the administration in Washington… As Bush said about another matter, the Mark Foley scandal recently “funny how things come out just before an election”……….

What do you think of the fact that the court won’t release the written verdict until Thursday?
The fact that they did the whole sentencing song and dance right before they had a written judgment to release seems pretty suspect.
Why didn’t the court just wait until Thursday to read the sentence?

I must confess that I am to the point where I am so utterly unconvinced of the competence of the administration to accomplish much of anything in Iraq that I find it unlikely that they could manipulate the reading of the verdict.
Further, the schedule of the court trials have been so illogical to me from the beginning that I take it as given that they will continue function that way.
