Iraqis to Get Legal Custody of Saddam Tomorrow
Allawi told a news conference on Tuesday Iraqi legal proceedings against Saddam would begin within a few days, but his trial would not start for several months.
I wonder if they are going to go through with the plans for a ceremonial turn-over to be broadcast on television, with a US soldier giving Saddam to an Iraqi officier for arrest.
My understanding is that the Iraqi’s will have legal custody, but the US will still have physical custody. Has that changed?

No, it hasn’t. However, I have heard several reports that there plans to have a physical hand-over from a US official to an Iraqi one as a symbolic gesture of the transfer. If that happens, on Iraqi tv, it could have a huge boost to Iraqi morale.

No doubt. And for American morale too, I think.

It would be way more interesting if the headline read “Iraq to stage massive figgy pudding eating contest.”
