Via the AP: TV Show Host Scarborough Weighs Senate Bid
I know this has been in the air for a couple of days, but I was unaware that he was seriously considering a run–I just thought his name had been floated.
However, he does appear to be mulling:
Scarborough said Wednesday that he has already talked with Sen.
Elizabeth Dole, who heads the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and plans to meet with Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman and White House officials next week about whether to get into the race to unseat Democrat Bill Nelson.
While being in the Senate is one of the pinnacles of US politics, I have to think that it a lot less work (and pays better) to stay on TV.
And as James Joyner noted yesterday, all those hours on TV mean the likelihood of some useful (for one’s opponent) sound bites.
My guess is that he ultimately signs a new TV deal. At the moment it seems far more likely that he is more or less guaranteed 6 more years of employment in TV and radio while he would have to go out and win the Senate seat.
