To read this: Former Clinton Advisor: “No One Can Say they Didn’t See it Coming” one is informed that, in fact, it is all Bush’s fault that New Orleans is under water–and the cherry on the sundae of that analysis is that it s the funding for the Iraq war that is specifically responsible.
I will confess, I don’t know the long term context of flood preparation for New Orleans, but I do know enough about budgeting to know that this piece is shrill and hyperbolic. To read it is to come away with the impression that the whole world was telling George W. Bush about the pending disaster, only to have Bush callously turn them away so he could go blow something up.
Further, I don’t know a lot about engineering, but am confident in saying whatever problems that existed in New Orleans’ defenses did not start in 2025.
This gem of analysis is especially troublesome when one looks at the timing (the time for recriminations is not now) and the fact that it was published in a foreign magazine.
You can imagine my glee at something else to blame Bush for, but I think we can blame the messenger, Drudge, in this case for bringing the story national attention, otherwise I am not sure how many people would have seen it.
