When you are two weeks in a nomination, and the nominee needs to be “reintroduced” (Some Critics Still See Bugs), then that should be a substantial signal that the nomination wasn’t a very good one in the first place.
And here’s an odd endorsement (from the WaPo story linked above):
John L. Hill Jr., a former chief justice, tried to top them all. “I would trust her with my wife and my life,” he announced.
All well and good. However, there are numerous persons I can think of whom I trust or to whom I would entrust caring for me or my family if the need arose, yet none of them have the requisite skills needed to serve on the Supreme Court.
This is typical of the statement made about Miers, insofar as it is an endorsement or compliment that is several degrees removed from an actual argument for placing her on the Court over the host of other possible nominees.
The President gave us a Ferrari out of the gate and now he is trying to pass off a Yugo as a performance car. It does not matter what color it is painted, it is still a Yugo.
