Via AP: Texas Court Won’t Dismiss DeLay Charges
The state’s highest criminal court on Monday denied Rep. Tom DeLay’s request that the money laundering charges against him be dismissed or sent back to a lower court for an immediate trial.
I have a feeling that there is some serious trouble ahead for DeLay.
Even if he weathers the legal storm for the nonce, he may well lose the election in November. The percentage of Democrats in his district was increased in the last redistricting, on the theory that DeLay himself was “safe” and his opponent, Nick Lampson, was a member of Congress who was districted out of his seat and has some local support to build from.
DeLay will be fine. Today’s ruling was just part of a partisan conspiracy to keep him down. Ronnie Earle and the liberal Texas Court of Criminal Appeals are showing their desperation with this ruling. It is clear that Earle doesn’t have a case and that the american people see through these partisan shenanegans.

Excuse me? An entire court of Republicans are partisan against a Republican?
Can I have some of the reality-bending stuff kldasaf is smoking?

You have a feeling? The greasy-haired little butthead is going to be convicted in Texas. He’s a crook for cying out loud. Then he’s going to be indicted by the Feds in the Abramoff scandal. And, with to Abramoff and his former aide Scanlon testifying against him, he’ll be convicted in the Federal system - where the judge will be bound by sentencing guidelines. DelLay is much more likely to be serving time in a prison cell than to be re-elected to the House - and you’ve got a “feeling” he may be in trouble? Wake up and smell the coffee, fellas, he’s not going to be alone.

I think we need to think positive here and make sure that we reiterate the main themes that Luntz is circulating, namely, that Ronnie Earle is a partisan hack and that the charges are baseless. Anything that can be perceived to be a setback is clearly the result of partisan rancor. I think the American people are, frankly, sick of this witch hunt. A good man like DeLay needs to get back to the people’s business.

I think I’ll pass on whatever kldasaf is smoking… not sure I want my reality tilted that far.
I’ll give ten-to-one odds that DeLay won’t even finish out his term. He’s dead meat, soon to be fed to the sharks… and the GOP will be far too busy stepping back from the flying blood and guts to render assistance to the Hammer.
I wonder how long it will be before Scott McClellan informs the Washington press corps that Bush “barely knew” DeLay, or that they “were never very close.” Before the month’s out, I’m thinking…

I wish the Democrats were so organized and influential that they would mount a conspiracy against DeLay. They might actually start winning elections.

I love the way “conservatives” use the “it’s all partisan hackery” logic. Of course - the only reason they are justified in thinking that way is that they bring up frivilous lawsuits and investigations all the time if it means cornering a liberal in power (how much, exactly, did the whitewater investigation cost again?).
However this IS the real world after all and when you are indicted for frivilous or false reasons you can counter-sue for wrongful prosecution. Wrongful prosecution is the real deal in this country. It can bring down legal professionals at all levels. So why, exactly, hasn’t he counter-sued “the people” yet? Just biding his time? or maybe he doesn’t care so much about his reputation? I look forward to hearing the answers…

I’m all for Delay getting off if he is innocent but this kind of thinking that we should just push whatever propoganda his people tell us to is rediculous.
In this case it’s pretty clear that it the appeals court wasn’t playing partisan politics since they are solidly republican.
You should be ashamed kldasaf.

You’re missing kldasaf’s point.
kldasaf: I think we need to think positive here and make sure that we reiterate the main themes that Luntz is circulating…
kldasaf doesn’t care what reality may or may not be. He only wnats to make a partisan point designed expressly (and cynically) to take the heat off of his guy. Whether Earle is in fact a “partisan hack” (a label for which there is more evidence in the case of kldasaf, based on his words here, than there is for the Texas prosecutor) doesn’t seem to matter at all.

They’ve already started - on the wrong foot, IMHO, with the ‘blue collar help’ theme.
