Dallas 123, San Antonio 118, OT

And what’s worse: I deprived myself of sleep for the privilege of watching them lose. I hate it when that happens!

Down 3-1, I just can’t see San Antonio winning three straight against this Mavs team. Ah well.

As much as I like the Spurs, I like the Mavs more, especially Mark Cuban’s in-your-face ownership style. I admit that when they first drafted Nowitzki with their top draft choice, I thought Don Nelson should be committed. Shows how much I know.

That was a good game, even if San Antonio had won. I hope this is the Mavs’ year.

It is difficult to come back from a 1-3 without a lot of help from the refs (see 1979 Washington “comeback” over the Spurs). But heck, if the Red Sox can come back from 0-3 to beat the Yanks, anything is possible. Go Spurs!

    3. Dr. Steven Taylor Says:

The Suns did it against the Lakers this year, but the Suns were the better team. The Mavs and the Spurs are pretty evenly matched–and, indeed, the Mavs have been better than the Spurs.

      Bryan,

If the Mavs win, I will pull for them to win the rest of the way, but the Spurs are my team, so I can’t get excited about the idea of them taking a second-round exit! ;)

    4. Jeff Vreeland Says:

You know I too stayed up and watched this finish – but I have to admit I am rooting for the Mavs, just because I like Dirk Novetzki (sp).

Was a great game all around. I unfortunately can only get into basketball during the playoffs, but I do enjoy games like this.

I don’t know what game ya’ll were watching, but that was horrible. The reffing was just… infuriating. 8.5 seconds left. Spurs up by two. Bowen on Nowitzki. Dirk is literally pushing Bowen backwards with his hand (shoulder dropped too by the way). After Bowen is pushed back about four feet, they call the foul on Bruce Bowen (First-team, All-defensive team… AGAIN) with 8.5 seconds left? Are you kidding me?

      I won’t even talk about Ginobili’s 6th “foul.”

    6. Dr. Steven Taylor Says:

I must confess: I was not particularly impressed with the officiating.

I don’t really like NBA basketball, but Mavs fever is at an alltime high out here…I can be a bandwagon fan for one year…Go Mavs

      Mavs? Boo anything Dallas!!!!

Oh, sorry, The Steeler fan in my coming through. ;)

So . . . umm . . . go Spurs! and go Clippers – show the Lakers you can beat the team they couldn’t and advance two rounds further than the Lakers could!

    9. B. Minich, PI Says:

(Though ironically, Mark Cuban is a Pittsburgh area native, and his name circulates in rumors to own not one, but two sports teams in this area – the Pirates and the Penguins – the Steelers are spoken for, and will be for a long time, it seems – and they have good ownership to boot. The Pirates ownership is mediocre, and they aren’t selling. The Pens are up for sale.)
