Via the AP: Congressman jokes about cocaine on TV
Backed into an uncomfortable corner, Rep. Robert Wexler stared straight into the camera and proclaimed that he enjoys cocaine and prostitutes “because it’s a fun thing to do.”Comedian Stephen Colbert, host of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” prodded the congressman to “say a few things that would really lose the election for you if you were contested.” Saying “this is just kidding,” he asked Wexler to complete this sentence: “I enjoy cocaine because … ”
Caught off guard and squirming a bit, the Florida Democrat said, “I enjoy cocaine because it’s a fun thing to do.”

What’s especially painful about this clip is how Colbert is able to cajole Wexler into repeating the line, “I like cocaine because it’s a great deal of fun,” until he gets it right–i.e., it sounds like the sort of career-ending statement a cornered Congressman might make.
Sigh. The Democratic Party: can’t live with it, can’t live without it.

Wow. Colbert is a GENIUS.
I’ve really got to watch that show. Or at least Ti-Vo it.
