A CBS poll notes: Poll: Most Say Health Care Fight About Politics, Not Policy.
This strikes me as an odd dichotomy and one wherein one can hardly fully disaggregate the terms from one another. Indeed, I suspect most respondents could not adequately explain the exact difference between the two, save that they probably consider “politics” to have a negative connotation while “good policy” has a positive one (“good” of course, being the tip off there). But, really, is the point of politics power the ability to implement one’s preferred policies? 1 Beyond that, is there rally any doubt that the Democrat’s had a policy preference for passage while Republicans had a policy preference for the bill to fail?
- And yes, I know that policy is not the only motivation for political action, but it is a rather foundational one. [↩]
