Aldo Civico takes to little HuffPo-powered time travel to explain why Antanas Mockus won the presidency of Colombia this coming May 30th (and yes, time travel plays havoc with verb tense).

I still think that the notion that Mockus could win the first round outright to be mathematically problematic, but I do think that the reasons that Civico lists for why Mockus might eventually win in the second round to be pretty solid.

If Mockus does win, the nature of his campaign will become a focus of study, because not only will he have manage to win sans traditional partisan networks (which will be very interesting to Colombianists) but he will also have run a campaign that relied very heavily on the internet and social media, especially Facebook (which will be of interest to a lot of people who otherwise would never think to study Colombia).
