File Today’s List under “The Blogosphere”:
Top 5 Technical Things I Wish All Blogs Did
5. I wish every blog used sitemeter and left the stats public (cuz I am a curious sort).
4. I wish that all blogs were listed in the TTLB.
3. I wish every blog used MT-style Trackback pings (and if you don’t use MT, you still can trackback with the best of ‘em).
2. I wish everyone pinged blogrolling (and other “updated” lists) when they updated their blogs.
1. I wish everyone had permalinks for each post (are you listening Kaus and Sully?–actually, just Kaus, Sully now has permalinks. I mean, gee whiz, if hobbiest can do it, surely the Big Boys can).
If you want to play along in the comments section, feel free–or if you have your own blog, post your own list and link back to this post to get a trackback link posted here on PoliBlog.
(the sitemeter and TTLB wishes probably result from my comparative background and my desire for uniform metrics for use in comparisons!

Howard Kurtz has turned Media Notes into a quasi-blog and he doesn’t have perma-links either. Very annoying.

Since I use an aggregator, I wish that all blogs had an RSS feed.

Let me second the request for RSS feeds. Especially for smaller or less frequently updated blogs, the RSS feed is an important way of letting people know when the blog is updated.
I think RSS 1.0 is technically superior to the competing 2.0 standard, but both are better than no feed at all.

I provide the RSS feed although am a bit reluctant since it doesn’t count in my traffic rankings.
And Sully only kinda does permalinks–he posts several things per link most of the time.

Congrats on passing 75,000 BTW.

I knew that there was something about Sully’s links which irked me…
And thanks.

Another vote for RSS (or atom) feeds.
And death to sitemeter

RSS Feeds! I want the hits too but I think the sacrifice is worth it.

This isn’t a technical request, but I wish that blogs would not post “top headline news.” I know that LSU won the Sugar Bowl.
Just a cranky suggestion. Otherwise I’m happy just being a blog troll, having retired from be a blog writer.

#2 #2 #2 #2 And I must confess I have been to your site a hundred times and never noticed the updated blog list. I don’t understand why so few people do this.

Okay Steven, I’ll succumb to one of your requests and try sitemeter on my humble blog. Since I’m starting from zero again, my usage stats indicate I’ve had 8,900 prior visits since I began blogging seven months ago. Hope this helps satisfy some of your obsessive statistical cravings and congrats on your 75k mark as well. Cheers.

Good luck and thanks!
(And you can get Sitemeter to start from an already established count, i.e., you don’t have to start at zero

I’m with Myria on sitemeter. Death to sitemeter!
When it goes down pages don’t load right, if they load at all.
If you are that durned nosy, send me an e-mail and I’ll send you a screenshot of the site stats from my server log.
I’m with you on the pings and permalinks.

Everything you wanted to know about blogging but were afraid to ask
There are plenty of good guides to blogging and I was going to add my $0.02 to the pile. It’s the thing to do once your blog reaches a certain age, and I figure turning one is about the right time. However I’m going to break with blogosphere traditio…
