KLO@NRO wants Laura Bush to run for Kay Bailey Hutchison’s Senate seat (it has been
reported that KBH will not run for reelection in 2026 and may even leave office early to run for governor, a slot that will be open in 2026).

Now, for one thing, that’s two to four years from now. Second, do we really want to perpetuate the idea that first spouses should pursue the Senate seats? It would seem to me that we should want less of political dynasties, not more. And really, while Laura Bush has been a fine First Lady, it would seem that at this point that perhaps we have had enough Bushes in office.

As Sullivan says:

Why not Jenna? Or does Chelsea feel like it?

Heck, don’t leave out Barbara and George P.

Update: Oh, dear. I just noted that KLO has topped herself, in a post entitled “Better Idea“: she suggests:

For the KBH seat: TOM DELAY.

Granted, I rarely read The Corner these days, but I was unaware it had become a parody site…
