Via the AP: GOP House candidate in Alabama runs 1st Palin ad

A Republican House candidate from Alabama began running a television ad Wednesday featuring vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, making it the first congressional campaign commercial to include the Alaska governor.

Now, this piqued my curiosity as it struck me that Palin would likely play quite well in AL02, and so was wondering as to how prominently Palin was featured in the ad.

Here’s the ad (which I noted yesterday (but did not view) at Left In Alabama):

In viewing the ad, I have to say that the usage and inclusion of Palin in the ad is hardly unusual, as it is really nothing more than an endorsement of the GOP ticket by a GOP candidate. It isn’t as if the ad highlights Palin in a special way.

Indeed, the ad is simply aimed at underscoring why conservatives in the district should vote for Love instead of his opponent, Bobby Bright, a conservative Democrat who is making an active play for Republican voters (which may work).

This is nothing more than what one would expect of any commercial done after the conventions in any cycle, i.e., that said ad would name the complete ticket, and not just the top of said ticket. As such, the significance of Palin being named in the ad in this way is pretty much zero. It is only noteworthy (if one could call it that) because of the general maelstrom surrounding Palin. Now, had Love really focused on support for Palin, or if the ad had been focused on Palin primarily, that would have been interesting. However, despite the story headline which highlights Palin’s presences in the ad, there really isn’t really anything here.

    1. It looks like he’s trying to create some coattails and rev up local conservatives. Hardly innovative or surprising.

    2. Got to do whatever you can when you’re $650,000 in the hole and still behind.

    3. Palin won’t be much help. Her star is fading fast. After the initial hype, people are beginning to realize that, just like her running mate, she’s full of hot air. She comes off like one of those dolls that, when you pull its string, it spews one of several one-liners: “I said thanks but no thanks” (confirmed lie) or “I put it on eBay” (not the whole truth), “I voted against the Bridge to Nowhere” (after she endorsed it–half a lie), etc. It recently came out that she was getting per diem at taxpayer’s expense while staying at home. While her running mate points an accusing finger at all who accept earmarks, Ms. Palin never met an earmark she didn’t like, once getting $27 million for a town of 7,000. Now she’s refusing to cooperate with investigaters on her abuse of power charges, claiming partisan politics, when it was three republicans and two democrats that initiated the investigation. She hasn’t even gotten into office yet, and she’s already claiming executive privilage. Can you say Bush-Cheney? Better yet, can you say cover up? Every day Sarah’s star gets a little more tarnished.
