I guess we have not learned our lesson, throwing money at a problem, i.e. the war on poverty, the levee system, and corrupt politicians in a corrupt political environment is not the most fiscally responsible or intelligent thing to do. The systems must be dramatically changed, holding the politicians responsible, and making the Bureaucracy more streamlined, updating the systems of government to the 21st century. I am not sure that you can use the words Bureaucracy and streamlined together, nor can they describe oneanother. But it is only 51 billion dollars, that is just another drop in the preverbial government bucket.

What’s the total number of people who fled the hurricane? 1 million? Using that as rough figure that’s $50,000 for every man, woman, and child. That sounds like a lot more than immediate needs to me.
I’ve also heard calls for a 9/11 victims-style fund for victims. I thought that the 9/11 fund was a bad precedent back when Congress established it and I think we’re about to learn why.
