Via the BBC: Ecuador leader celebrates ‘win’

Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa has been celebrating an apparent landslide victory in a referendum on overhauling the political system.

An exit poll showed 78% of voters backed his call for a people’s assembly that would by-pass Congress and rewrite the constitution.

Fore Correa’s sake, hopefully they didn’t use the same exit polling methods that predicted a Kerry win on ’04…

My guess is that the measure will pass handily once the final numbers are in.

And now the real fun begins. If under the old constitutional order 57 members of Congress can be fired and they can then clash with police while trying to get back into the building, imagine what excitement a constitutional assembly will bring.
