Via Reuters: ETA Sets Off Car Bomb in Madrid, 39 Injured

A car bomb exploded outside Madrid’s main convention center on Wednesday, injuring 39 people, after a warning from the Basque separatist group ETA.

Thirty-nine people were hurt, none seriously, including 23 taken to hospital, an emergencies official told Reuters. Five police officers were among those treated, another official said.

The explosion, which coincided with a major police operation against ETA in northern Spain, seemed to erase any hope the group might declare a truce before Basque elections in April and could dent Madrid’s bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games

Yes, I would think it would.

At least they issued a warning.

I often wonder what groups like this think. Do they really believe that blowing up cars will lead to Basque independence? I suppose they must, but somehow I don’t see the tactic working.

      Why not? They saw Al-Qeada had success with their bomb….

      ETA a group that claims to only want to target infrastructure and not injure anyone has set off a bomb that injured 31 people. The group normally calls ahead to warn people in advance, but apparently didn’t give a good…
