My wife and I watched the premiere of UPN’s Everybody Hates Chris last night (TiVo-delayed, of course) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It certainly is the most promising new sitcom to come out in some years. The show was smart, well written and well acted. It was also, as Dana Stevens of Slate noted sweet. It certainly was very pro-family. I wouldn’t let small children watch it given the occasional usage of the word “ass”–and the use of the n-word.
I also liked the innovative narrative style that wasn’t wholly linear in its presentation and was quite clever.
The Dad’s ability to know exactly how everything costs was quite funny, as was the mother’s panoply of ways for “whoopin’ ass”. There were several laugh-out-loud moments.
And, good news for those who liked the show (and the exec at UPN), the show got excellent ratings.
