I received a response from Stanley Farrar, the Managing Editor of the Seattle Times and they have agreed to change the name of their blog. Here’s the e-mail:
Mr. TaylorYes, because we’re a morning paper a couple of the editors with whom I had to touch base aren’t here until early afternoon but we’ve talked and decided we’ll change the name of our blog. We’ll have to vet a new name, arrange for someone in graphics to create new templates for the pages and change all the refs to it in print and online but I’m hoping that can be done within a day or two. I’ll keep you informed.

Indeed, that speaks well of the Seattle Times, that they respected your blog name without forcing you to resort to legal action.

Prof T, what’s the deal with their detailing for you their corrective actions? Is it to assure you that it will take time, or is it sort of a parting guilt-trip?

I took it to be disclosure of the process, given that the change wasn’t immediate. I shall be keeping an eye on their site, to be sure.
