The bodycount for the last 24 hours in Iraq has gone up to 80.
Via the BBC: Scores of bodies found in Baghdad
Iraqi authorities have discovered bodies from two mass killings, taking the number of corpses found in the past 24 hours to more than 80.
How many people were murdered in the U.S. today? This week?
The lastest data from the FBI has the U.S. murder rate at about 17,000 people year. That comes to around 50 people murdered every day, or about 350 Americans killed every week.
Just a comparison.

I like this argument, but we should remember that we have approx 250 Million (I think), as compared to 25 million Iraqis, so by that logic, 35 Iraqis murdered a week would be “comparable”. So yes, 80 bodies found in a city of 5 to 6 million is a bad day.
However, just another comparison to put an Iraqi perspective on this….
When Saddam was in power, 80 Iraqis were murdered in a day, the only difference is today this makes international news, 10 years ago, no one cared.
That is the perspective of many Iraqis who I meet with daily in Baghdad. Not saying that it is right or that we should just except it, but it is a way of life for these people and I don’t believe it will disrupt the forming of the government or lead to a Civil War as the media likes to infer.

Perspective is always good, and I would agree that it is often forgotten what happened when Saddam was in power.
However, 77 deaths (3 of the 80 in question were in Mosul), in a twenty-four hour period in any US city, especially if they were found in groups of 12+ in mass graves, would cause more than a yawn, shall we say.
As such, I think that “Whatever” is being remarkably blase about what amounts to a significant loss of human life.
