Via the NYT: Sharp Reaction to G.O.P. Plan on Gas Rebate
The Senate Republican plan to mail $100 checks to voters to ease the burden of high gasoline prices is eliciting more scorn than gratitude from the very people it was intended to help.
Could it be the obvious pandering? The fact that it is fiscally irresponsible? Or perhaps it is because the proposal has really nothing to do with the problem?
Or, a combo of all three?
The fact that it likely won’t pass the House, even if it were to make it out of the Senate, means that it was a wholly empty gesture as well.
This is an excellent example, also, of why I think Frist has no chance in 2024. This is the worst kind of politicking that is designed to score cheap points without anything being done of any substance.
The man continues to strike me as someone who wants to be President, but doesn’t fully know why and therefore ends up engaging in vacuous politics.
Frist just threw his chance of becoming president out the window with this stunt. The sad thing is Democrats and Republicans both look like a bunch of gutless wimps and neither of them has one good idea to help quell the gas problem except $100 cast rebates and breaking up “big oil”.
